The Australian Association of Islamic and Muslim Studies is pleased to announce the three keynote speakers for AAIMS’ upcoming conference at Western Sydney University: ‘Islam and Society: Challenges and Prospects’.

On April 11th, La Trobe University law student, Randa Rafiq, was presented with the Professor Riaz Hassan AAIMS Prize for Best Honours Thesis for 2018. Randa received this prestigious award for her creative thesis ‘The rocky road to legal pluralism,’ which examined legal pluralism in Australia with reference to Islamic family law.

Professor Pam Nilan’s fascinating seminar, ‘Indonesian Youth: Faith and Environmental Activism’ took place yesterday afternoon at The University of Melbourne, Sidney Myer Asia Centre.

We have an exciting, new addition to the AAIMS Executive Committee. We would like to extend a warm welcome to Dr Leticia Anderson of Southern Cross University of New South Wales, who, by invitation, is the new AAIMS Treasurer for 2019.

A big thank you to our 2018 Intern, Luisa Mitchell, for completing a Media Internship with AAIMS. The AAIMS Internship Program is designed to cultivate young professionals and activists, who are interested in multi-media and public engagement with a local and international audience.
