Good morning everyone,

A quick email to update you on some newsworthy items.

At the last AAIMS Advisory Board meeting it was noted that the Board needed to reflect the diversity of scholarship in Australia and especially pay attention to equitable gender representation. I am delighted to share that the Executive Committee extended an invitation to Prof Pam Nilan (Uni New Castle) in recognition of her pioneering work in youth studies, with a special focus on Indonesia. Prof Nilan holds a current ARC Discovery Grant on ‘Environmentalism, Environmentality and Environmental Education in Indonesia’. More information about Prof Nilan may be found here: https://www.newcastle.edu.au/profile/pamela-nilan

The Executive is very pleased that Prof Nilan has accepted the invitation to join the Advisory Board.

AAIMS Executive met on 5 February 2018 and noted the wonderful work of Dr Mehal Krayem as the Media Officer for the association in 2017, and has issued a new call for expressions of interests for that role. In line with AAIMS constitution, the Media Officer is a non-voting member of the Executive. A position description is available here.

Following ideas raised at AGM (18 Dec 2017), the Executive has decided to launch 2 new initiatives:
1.            A blog resources produced quarterly to highlight research and teaching innovations. This quarterly will be moderated by Dr Zahid Ahmed (Deakin Uni), see here.
2.            An internship scheme open to students, aimed at producing bite-size media products to show-case the high calibre of expertise amongst AAIMS membership, see here.

The AAIMS Executive also acknowledged the dedication of Mr Mahmoud Pargoo (ACU – Syd) for designing and maintaining AAIMS Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/aaims.au/

Also, as you will be familiar, AAIMS has its own twitter account: @AAIMS_AU

The Executive welcomes your ideas and suggestions. Hope to hear from you.

Regards,
Shahram
